One of the fastest rising stars of the AVP CROCS Tour, Matt Fuerbringer was awarded Rookie of the Year in 2003. Along with his partner Casey Jennings, Fuerbringer made it into the finals four times in 2003, tying for the most among all teams. Those two combined to form one of the longest-tenured domestic partnerships in history, as their 53 U.S. events together rank 12th, and they played in 11 championship matches from the start of 2003 through 2006. He and Jennings are the only players to finish ranked in the top seven individually in each of the last four seasons.

Prior to making the transition to beach, "Fuerby" enjoyed a successful indoor college career at Stanford University where he graduated with a degree in American Studies. He was named four-time All-American (one of two players who were the first to accomplish that feat), Freshman of the Year, Outstanding Senior Athlete and was a member of the 1997 NCAA National Championship team. He remains as the team's career leader in kills, and also ranks in the top five in aces and blocks.
Fuerbringer spent five years playing professionally in Europe and speaks fluent Spanish. He has also spent time writing for DIG Magazine about traveling abroad to play beach volleyball.
